Did you know that the Islands of Cocoplum is the only gated community in the Coral Gables area that has tennis clay courts, a clubhouse, private yacht club, lap pool, children’s playground, soccer field, basketball/volleyball courts and a gym?
Let me tell you a little about my personal experience moving into this one of a kind community. As you read along, you will learn about the fantastic characteristics that differentiate Islands of Cocoplum from the rest of the residential communities in the South Miami area.
From Colombia to Miami
My name is Beatriz “Geni” Cardona. I was born and raised in Cali, Colombia. At the age of 19, after having lived in Paris for 9 months, I moved to Miami to study International Relations at Florida International University. Following my optional practical training year at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and having developed an e-commerce business with my brother, I met my kind and loving Canadian husband, Paul.
As a multicultural marriage, we thought Miami would be a great place to start our family. It is geographically equidistant to both of the cities where our extended families live.
As a newly married couple, we first lived in Sunny Isles and Aventura. Once our family grew, we began looking for an ideal place to raise our 2 children – Martin (9) and Natalie (7). Taking into account that we had no other family members nearby, we wanted to live close to Paul’s only cousin who resides in the South Miami area, and we also wanted a secure place that felt like a “community”. We needed a place with a strategic location that would be close to the top schools in the area.
Having been in the real estate business for over 10 years, I focused all my energy towards finding the perfect place to raise our family. In this process, we explored different neighborhoods and put our hearts and minds to the test to select the right area to call home.
Finding the Perfect Fit
We were looking for an upbeat, centralized urban atmosphere, so with a good dose of patience, laughter, tears and faith we finally found the right fit and purchased our home in Islands of Cocoplum. We now call it our “petite paradise”.
Quality Time with Family and Neighbors
My husband Paul and I now feel very happy and blessed to wake up and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and resort-style estate living that Islands of Cocoplum offers. One of our favorite parts of the day is when our children grab their bikes to visit neighbors, or when we all drive together in our golf cart to the clubhouse or tennis courts. We value the time that we save avoiding traffic by having our kids enjoy tennis lessons in our own community. As a working mother, I find it truly important to optimize my time.
A True Sense of Community
A key reason why Islands of Cocoplum has been ranked one of the top and most sought-after residential communities in South Florida is because of its various volunteer committees including the sports and social committees – the latter that I am proud to be a member of. These committees foster a sense of community amongst members and offer a multitude of activities geared towards families, creating an ideal place for raising children.
As a mother of two young kids and understanding that family life is what’s most important, there is nothing more rewarding to see our kids doing outdoor activities such as tennis lessons, interacting with neighbors in different play days or casually meeting at the main pool and playground.
Resort-Style Estate Living
Among other unique characteristics that this community offers, let me tell you a bit about its history. Cocoplum is divided into 3 phases: Phase 1 is Cocoplum, Phase 2 is known as Islands of Cocoplum, and the third phase is called Tahiti Beach. This was the vision Charles E. Cobb, Arvida’s CEO and Tahiti Beach resident, had over 30 years ago. As CEO of Arvida, the nation’s largest community developer at the time, Cobb considered to live on this exclusive location to enjoy a great sense of convenience, unparalleled location and outstanding security.
The entire community is composed of 302 Unique Estates. From those 302 homes, 172 are waterfront properties with a price per square foot ranging from $700 to $1800, and the dry lots range from $480 to $950 per sf.
If you are interested in learning more about this exceptional community, I invite you to follow me and my partner Lili on Instagram and Facebook, where we give Cocoplum market updates in real time. We also provide a monthly list of active properties, along with pending and closed sales for the community.
