Coral Gables has a variety of holiday activities to please all ages. JJ Snow Hansen particularly enjoys the Villagers’ Annual Holiday House Tour, taking place on Saturday, December 1st and featuring South Miami and Coral Gables homes designed by notable architects. This year’s theme is “Architectural Gems – South of Sunset”  and proceeds support the preservation and protection of historic sites in Miami-Dade County.

Everyone loves a parade! For a very family-friendly activity with a hometown feel, Lauren Dowlen loves attending the Junior Orange Bowl Holiday Parade in Downtown Coral Gables every year. This magical march is celebrating it’s 70th anniversary on Sunday, December 2nd.

Blaire Sonville loves to kick off the holiday season at Art Basel to see the incredible art fair that has made our city thrive in the Arts. She always runs into so many friends that come visit from all over the world to enjoy this spectacular modern and contemporary art fair. This is truly a cultural experience not to be missed during December in Miami.

At the nexus of North America and Latin America, Art Basel in Miami Beach presents artworks from over 4,000 artists from across the globe, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, film, video, and digital art. Over 250 of the world’s leading galleries participate drawing over 70,000 visitors each year, offering an exciting and inspiring week for artists, collectors, curators, critics and art enthusiasts.

This year’s show runs December 6-9 in Miami Beach.

With the cooler temperatures in December, Blair also enjoys evening boat rides and outdoor dining. Stone Crab season begins in October, so Joe’s Stone Crab is a must. Kiki on the River and Seaspice are also two wonderful options to pull up via boat and enjoy a delightful dinner al fresco.

JJ Snow Hansen also recommends NightGarden, A Magical Light Spectacular that turns Fairchild Tropical Gardens into an enchanted, illuminated experience full of fantasy and wonderment where things like the Wise Talking Tree, Flying Fairies and a Sunflower Maze come to life. Children and adults alike are awed by the unbelievable live effects such as holographic butterflies and floating orchids throughout multiple acres of dazzling magic. This spectacular event runs from November 23rd through January 9th.

Beatriz Cardona and Suzanne Santos get in the festive spirit by taking their children and out-of-town visitors to City Hall for the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 7th, followed by photos with Santa at Merrick Park.

For those who enjoy the sounds of the holidays, the New World Symphony presents a festive program celebrating the holiday season, offering audience members an opportunity to gather and share music with friends and family. Sounds of the Season features selections from a variety of cultural heritages are certain to delight audiences of all backgrounds and ages. This free outdoor concert takes place on Saturday, December 15th at SoundScape Park on Miami Beach.

Heading down south to Homestead, you will also find great activities to enjoy the winter weather. Lauren Dowlen visits Knaus Berry Farm in the Redlands early in December to stock up on cinnamon buns for all those lazy mornings over the winter vacation!

Pinto Farm’s Wonderland at the Farm is also a top outdoor activity to get into the holiday spirit with family and friends while enjoying snow (Miami-style!), holiday treats, hot chocolate and much more at a beautiful illuminated forest. Kids get to meet Santa Claus, Nix the Snowman and Sprinkle the Gingerbread Cookie, and also enjoy hay rides, face painting, paddleboat rides, pony rides, and more! The event runs December 16th through January 9th.
